Fork Lifts
Only employees who have been trained, tested, certified and authorized may operate Forklifts. Operators must take a formal training session and a refresher course every three years thereafter. Upon completion of training, all operators must have an understanding of:
-
The responsibilities of a forklift/platform operator
-
How to conduct a prestart/operation inspection
-
How to conduct a workplace inspection
-
The hazards involved in operating a forklift/platform
-
The various types of forklifts/platforms available
-
How to read a load chart
-
How to prevent accidents in the workplace
If the operator is involved in an incident during forklift operations, or is observed operating the equipment in an unsafe manner, they must be re-trained. Work platform systems affixed to a forklift are only allowed if it is a part of the forklift manufacturer’s engineered system and used only after a written plan is developed and approved.
