First Aid Training

First Aid Training is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended for anyone who works in the construction trades. Through a cooperative agreement between Fred Shearer and Sons and the PNCI Carpenter's training center, First Aid training is available on a regular basis.  Fred Shearer schedules periodic free classes that are held at multiple sites.

If an incident occurs on your job site and you are CPR/First aid trained, it is incumbent on you to provide the assistance that you are qualified to provide. If you are not trained seek help from someone who is.

Remember First Aid is just that, First Aid. Oregon OSHA defines First Aid in this way:

  • First aid is emergency care provided for injury or sudden illness before emergency medical treatment is available. A first-aid provider in the workplace is someone who is trained to provide a primary assessment and intervention while waiting for emergency medical service personnel.

To learn more and to become better prepared to respond to an emergency, sign-up for CPR/First aid training the next time it's available, or ask your supervisor about training opportunities.
