No individual or equipment may work or operate within twenty feet of high voltage power lines. Only licensed or authorized personnel may work on electrical systems. Never make an assumption about electricity; it could kill you.

Assured Equipment Grounding Program

1. Use of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI). Equipment to be tested includes tools, cords and receptacles not part of the fixed or permanent wiring system as described in the Company Safety Manual; and

2. An Assured Equipment Grounding Program.

 

Methods to Assure Protection

1. Cords and tools may be plugged into a GFCI box.

2. Cords must be 14-gauge minimum.

3. Cords must be marked with electrical tape of the appropriate color to denote the current quarter. (White 1st quarter, Green 2nd quarter, Red 3rd quarter, Orange 4th quarter.)

4. Prior to work shift ensure cords pass inspection and are routed out of main access paths, and overhead whenever feasible.

5. Inspect cords daily for the following:

 

• Frayed, or deteriorated insulation.

• Exposed wiring.

• Cord ends are in good repair.

• Ensure all cords have three prongs for proper grounding.

• Ensure cord casing extends into cord ends correctly.

6. Do not run cords over sharp objects where they can be easily damaged (i.e. floor track)

7. Ensure temporary power is a ground fault interruption system (GFI).

• Do not overload temporary power outlets.

8. Any equipment found defective or not marked as “tested” according to this program, must be taken out of service and tagged “DO NOT USE”.
