HEAT RELATED ILLNESS PREVENTION

All supervisors and employees are to be trained to identify and mitigate conditions that could cause heat related illness, how to prepare and monitor employees and how to treat heat related illness when identified.

One of the main ways to prevent heat illness is to avoid the exposure to begin with. Schedule at risk work activities so they take place during the cooler hours of the week, having plenty of water available, and ensure precautions are taken to protect employees during these conditions.

If the following symptoms are experienced by you or others working with you, get out of the heat immediately and contact your supervisor:

Heat exhaustion:
Headaches, dizziness, light headedness or fainting, extreme weakness, profuse sweating, irritability, nausea or vomiting, or cramps

Heat stroke:
Dry hot skin with no sweating, strong rapid pulse, dizziness and nausea, confusion or irrational behavior, seizures or convulsions, or loss of consciousness
