FALL PROTECTION

FSS requires all workers that are exposed to a fall, working at heights of 6 feet or greater, to be in 100% fall protection. Any deviation from this fall protection policy must have an approved plan from the Safety Director.

All work will be planned with the intent to eliminate identified fall hazards. When a fall hazard has been identified and cannot be eliminated, then effective means of fall protection will be implemented.

A “Fall Protection System” means that some physical means/methods are provided to eliminate a fall exposure to employees. This may be accomplished by means of: ladders (as a last resort), scaffolds, aerial lifts, guardrails, static lines, nets, vertical safety lines, covers for floor, roof and wall openings standard or retractable lanyards, and a full body harness. Protection from falling objects must also be put into place.

Fall Protection on our projects is accomplished by a thorough analysis and pre-planning before work begins. Always use Fall Protection equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.

If for any reason you are uncomfortable working at heights, notify your supervisor immediately. Use of fall protection systems and equipment is mandatory on our projects. All personnel found in violation of these fall protection requirements are subject to immediate disciplinary action.

Employees will not use fall protection equipment without first completing a job specific
fall protection plan with the Foreman.
